When Missing Loved Ones Becomes a Lifestyle
I grew upwards missing people. My father was a company human being — a corporate nomad — then when it came time to move again, we packed upward and went where the career opportunities led him.
The just place he ever declined to move was Utah. That's because no one in their right mind agrees to movement to Utah. (Hey, no offense.)
Growing up, I missed friends, neighbors, and classmates across six states. Relationships were temporary. Living hundreds of miles from relatives, nosotros visited them once or twice a yr. For vii years, my dad worked 2d shift so he could climb that corporate ladder; oft I missed him, too.
When I attended college, naturally information technology was out-of-country. So, I landed a corporate job much like his and continued the nomadic lifestyle of corporate relocations and missing people.
Once I became a parent, however, I sought to ensure that my ain daughter didn't grow up missing people she loved. I wanted to give her the souvenir of being "from" somewhere. I wanted to give her the gift of not continually feeling loss or separation from all that was familiar.
We now live a rock'southward throw from my parents and other family. Corporate nomads eventually detect their oasis, and it's rarely at the tiptop of the organizational ladder.

"Tears in Heaven" and others are so poignant. The songs that touched my heart later on losing loved ones may not even have been ones like this, but ones that we used to sing together or had other meanings. Time does heal the initial pain of losing loved ones, difficult as that is to believe when nosotros first lose loved ones.
Every bit to your daughter, having a domicile base and long-lasting friendships, she is fortunate. Some families take no pick in the affair. I am thinking of military families, those who serve as diplomats, etc.
Thanks for sharing a part of your life with us.

Put an onetime photo and story about her out on Facebook and/or Twitter and see if you lot go results.
oldskooll on Oct 21, 2019:
I met my soulmate while living in Europe every bit a teenager. Nosotros'd spend ours days dreaming virtually a future together. But, her family unit abruptly left the state and disappeared. The twenty-four hour period I watched her lath the aeroplane crying is among the worst days of my life.
We knew nosotros'd probably never run across each other again and promised to ever recollect, and find each other in the next life.
In the years since, I've searched, but never found any trace of her.
And, while my life went on, I've never forgotten her.
The song that e'er makes me stop and think about her and what could have been is "Who Wants to Live Forever" by Queen. Like in the song, we just weren't fated to be together. Only, we had our one sweet moment - our forever.

Some overnice writing and some practiced tunes.
The juxtaposition of songs nearly real, raw actual emotion to some of the made up nonsense apropos "micro-aggressions" on college campuses today is startling. We used to use things like music to cope with feet and depression. And so we moved to drugging virtually a whole society and at present nosotros are beginning to run into a generation that act as if they are so fragile you lot can't fifty-fifty ask where they were born for fear of pain their feelings.
